Performance Reviews 2022

It's that time of the year again, performance reviews are just around the corner so what better time to start thinking about where you fit in the market.

ree

With that in mind, we have included a few of the main considerations and how to address them in your performance review.

Salary

Give your current employer the benefit of the doubt, salaries have moved significantly over the last 12 months and it has been very hard to keep up with.

Notwithstanding the above, if you think salary is going to be one of the key points you want to discuss in your performance review you need to:

  • Build a business case, what makes you worth X;

  • Clearly define what problems you can solve now that you couldn’t 12 months ago;

  • Explain how this impacts the business you work for; and finally,

  • You need to know what other people who do what you do are getting paid.

Training and Development

Lots of people focus on salary in performance reviews, however we would stress that it is a good opportunity to discuss what development opportunities will be available to you over the next 12 months.

Excluding technical skills, the most desirable experience for future employers:

  • Staff management experience;

  • Experience managing clients/stakeholders;

  • Experience winning business.

A good way to frame these conversations is:

  • Over the last 12 months, I have improved XYZ;

  • Over the next 12 months it is really important to my development that I am given the opportunity to develop my staff/client management skills so I wanted to ask what you need to see out of me to be confident to give me that opportunity?

  • Are there any training courses you would recommend I attend?

Final Points

Failure to plan is planning to fail.

Performance reviews are real meetings and if you don’t know what you want to get out of them before you go in, why would anything change?
